APNetwork Is Going To Start Using AWS!

We are going to start using Amazon Web Services or AWS on all of APNetwork. This will provide faster loading times and provide streaming content for you to use. We are working on getting Amazon S3 and CloudFront put together to start allowing the streaming of content for our podcasts. Soon enough, we will be using some sort of other server (Elastic Transcoder or something similar) to encode our videos in 4 resolutions (360p, 480p, 720p, and 1080p) and 3 formats (h.264, ogv, and webm). As for our audio, it will be encoded in 3 formats (mp3, ogg, and wav) This will use a lot of space and bandwidth. The downloadable podcasts will be kept at 480p due to bandwidth prices. The other resolutions will become available for certain podcasts and if we can get a player that will allow for multiple resolutions. We will always post YouTube versions of our podcasts (Yes, even the audio ones) for full quality streaming and a platform that everyone is used to.

New Pingdom Checks

The new public status page.

The new public status page.

Pingdom will no longer be monitoring sub-sites like PolarDrafting, Control Alt Escape, and Plus Media Me. It will only be monitoring what matters. You can find all the new monitoring sites and servers on the public status page.

Major Increase In Our Site’s SEO

Just about three hours ago, I set up a sitemap.xml for search engines since they didn’t find some pages. After adding them in Webmaster Tools, there were 206+ URLs that have not been found by Google. Hopefully, this makes us even higher in the search ranking!

We Are Now Using Gaug.es For Web Analytics

What Gaug.es looks like.

What Gaug.es looks like.

Gaug.es is a very powerful web analytics dashboard that lets you see fully real-time information. What web analytics are is they are a little bit of code that will send information about your browser, what page you are on, where you are, and other information to a database which can be viewed by a dashboard. I just added our analytics to Gaug.es to try it out so, not many page views are being logged. If I decide to stay with it, I will upgrade my account. Gaug.es is actually really cool so far and logs everything I could need. This combine with RUM (Real User Monitoring) from Pingdom is a very powerful tool. Gaug.es is provided as a separate service to GitHub.
